Villagers flee as security operatives withdraw from Kaduna community

After the security forces stationed in Maganda village, Nagaji Gari Ward, in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, pulled out, the villagers began to desert their homes in fear of what might happen.

Some villagers reportedly ran away because of the threat of bandits who have been raiding the communities for years.

A source said the security forces who were supposed to guard the villagers left the area last Saturday without warning, creating panic among the locals.

He said, “A resident of the area and a former councillor who moved his wife and children out of the community said the bandits stormed the community as soon as the security forces left and took people’s phones and money from house to house without any resistance.”

He said most villagers have left their houses, along with their farm produce and other possessions.

Ishaq Usman Kasai, Chairman of Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressive Union (BEPU), verified the incident and urged the government, especially the military authorities, to quickly send back their forces to the area to shield the villagers from the danger of bandit attacks.
