Governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the aegis of the Progressive Governors’ Forum have passed a vote of confidence in the Chairman of the forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, dismissing reports of plans to replace him.

The governors also reaffirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

The development followed widespread speculation on Thursday night that members of the forum had allegedly resolved to replace Uzodimma with Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah.

Speaking with journalists after a closed-door meeting at the Imo Lodge in Abuja on Friday, governors present at the meeting described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that the forum remains united.

Governors from Ondo, Kaduna, Taraba, Sokoto, Ebonyi, Borno, Lagos, Kogi, Kano, Yobe, Kebbi, Benue and Jigawa states attended the meeting, while Nasarawa State governor was represented by the deputy governor.

Moving the motion for a vote of confidence, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, said there was no crisis within the forum to justify the rumours of leadership change.

“We don’t have any problem to justify what they have said. I want to use this opportunity to move a vote of confidence in our chairman and his deputy,” he said.

Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, who serves as deputy chairman of the forum, also dismissed reports of disunity within the APC governors’ camp.

“We all woke up to that unfortunate story circulating in the media, but the truth is that the Progressive Governors’ Forum is united and stronger now than ever,” he said.

Sani added that APC governors remained committed to supporting President Tinubu and strengthening the party ahead of future elections.

Also speaking, Uzodimma said APC governors had resolved to work together to deliver good governance and social interventions that would improve the lives of Nigerians.

“The governors of the APC are united and determined to support the President and ensure victory in the 2027 elections,” he stated.

He added that the forum would continue to focus on governance, performance and policies aimed at improving citizens’ welfare while preparing the party for its forthcoming primaries.
