Urhobo in Patani, joins their Warri-Urhobo brothers to fight political exclusion in Delta South

By Atevure Princess,

The Urhobos in Odorubu, Uduophori, and Imighwre communities in Patani Local Government Area of Delta State have come out to join their brothers in Okere Urhobo and Agbarha Kingdoms in Warri South local Government Area to demand for equal political and economic right for all ethnic groups in Delta South senatorial District.

In a press release signed by Barr. Reginald Asiuwhu, Rev. Isreak Unutame, Mr Ughere Riland, and Dr Atake Roland for the All Progressive Congress APC members and indigenes of the three Urhobo communities in Patani made available to journalists in Warri, they stated that Urhobos in the Delta South have been grossly marginalized and are treated like aliens from unknown planets.

According to them; “since the inception of democracy, the Urhobos in the Delta south senatorial district have been grossly marginalised and trampled upon like aliens from unknown places.”

They stressed further that it is not their own making that they are in Delta south and therefore wonder why they should be marginalise politically.

They said since the creation of Patani Local Government Area the Urhobos have not held the position of a member, Delta State House of Assembly nor Council Chairman.

The Urhobos in Patain stakeholders added despite their huge contributions towards the  over 4000 votes scored by Mr President during the presidential election, they have nothing to show for it in terms of political patronage.

“We have taken a joint stand with our brothers to kick against the gross marginalisation being meted on us and seek to jostle for any appointive position that is accruing to the Delta south senatorial district.”

They therefore concluded that they have qualified and capable hands among them to handle any position coming to Delta South Senatorial District like other ethnic groups.
