Aigboje attended the prestigious King’s College in Lagos, Nigeria, before moving on to study Law at the University of Benin.

He later obtained an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Herbert, on the other hand, studied Accountancy at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and later earned an MA in Banking and Finance from the University of North Wales.

Personal Life and Family

Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede and Herbert Wigwe have both built successful personal lives, balancing their professional careers with a strong commitment to their families. Aigboje is married to Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, and together they have four children.

Herbert Wigwe was also married to Chizoba Wigwe (née Nwuba), and they had four children together as well.

The Banking Sector

Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede and Herbert Wigwe are most well-known for their tremendous contributions to the Nigerian banking industry.

In 2002, the two friends and business partners acquired Access Bank, a small commercial bank ranked 65th out of 89 banks in Nigeria.

Under their leadership, the bank grew exponentially, expanding its reach across continents, weathering economic storms, and championing innovation and digitization within the bank.

In 2013, Aigboje stepped down as Access Bank’s Group Managing Director and CEO, handing the reins over to Herbert.

Under Herbert’s leadership, Access Bank continued to grow, absorbing the defunct Diamond Bank in 2018 and initiating mergers and acquisitions in several countries, including Zambia, Uganda, Sierra Leone, and Cameroon.
