The United States rejected a UN migration declaration on Monday. Washington skipped the second International Migration Review Forum held in New York on May 8.

Nations gathered to discuss the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration. The U.S. says it bears no responsibility for decisions it didn't help shape.

State Department officials noted that President Trump opposed the migration compact back in 2017. "The intervening years have confirmed the wisdom of that opposition," they said in a readout.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio called mass migration "a grave mistake." He warned it threatens social cohesion across America.

The Trump administration blamed immigration for multiple crises. Crime surged at the border and major cities declared emergencies, officials claimed.

Billions in taxpayer dollars went toward managing migration flows, according to the government. UN agencies and their partners allegedly facilitated what Washington termed an "invasion."

Officials said foreign nationals received resources meant for Americans. "Our people's wealth and resources" went to immigrants, the State Department charged.

A department statement emphasized Trump's priorities: "President Donald Trump is focused on the interests of Americans, not foreigners or globalist bureaucrats."

Washington will not accept any international migration framework. The U.S. insists on its sovereign right to set immigration policy without external constraints or guidelines.
