Comrade Lucky Ofomukoro has emerged as the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, as party leaders projected an ambitious electoral target of 180,000 votes ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ofomukoro was elected through a consensus arrangement ratified at the LGA congress held on Saturday, following earlier ward congresses conducted across the 11 wards of the local government.

Declaring the new executive duly elected, the Returning Officer, Mr. Nick Ovakporia, said the exercise complied with the party’s laid-down rules and regulations. He commended stakeholders and delegates for what he described as a peaceful process.

Shortly after the declaration, the founding leader of the APC in Delta State, O'tega Emerhor, congratulated party members for embracing consensus at both ward and local government levels, describing the development as unprecedented.

Emerhor said the outcome reflected growing unity within the party and expressed confidence that the APC was repositioning for victory in future elections.

He expressed optimism that the renewed cohesion would strengthen the party’s chances of delivering President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates in the next general elections.

Also speaking, Ughelli North Local Government Area Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, described the congress as peaceful and symbolic of unity within the APC.

Egbo characterised Ughelli North as a politically strategic council with one of the highest voting strengths in Delta State, noting that the party was building what he termed a “winning machine.”

“With almost 200,000 votes, we are confident we can deliver at least 180,000 votes,” he said.

He acknowledged the presence of minor dissenting voices but maintained that reconciliation efforts were ongoing to ensure total unity within the party.

In his remarks, the outgoing chairman of the Ughelli North APC, Mr. Samuel Evwighono, urged members to rally behind the new executive.

Evwighono said his administration prioritised reconciliation and expansion of the party’s base across the wards, adding that any unresolved concerns should be handled by the incoming leadership.

He emphasised the need for the APC to alter the perception of Ughelli North as an opposition stronghold, stressing that collective effort would be critical to securing victory in 2027.

In his acceptance speech, Ofomukoro pledged to run an inclusive administration anchored on consultation and unity.

“As chairman, I am ready 100 percent to work with our leaders and seek their counsel in all decisions,” he said.
