Two jailed for abducting minor

An Upper Customary Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has sentenced two men to two years imprisonment for abducting a 14-year-old.
Usman Bello and Rasheed Oke were charged by the police with criminal conspiracy and abduction, contrary to Sections 58 and 258 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, Law.
The prosecutor, Insp Esther Bishen, told the court that one Margaret Joel reported the missing of her younger sister at the Kafanchan Divisional Police Headquarters on July 1.
Bishen said that the complainant’s younger sister left home on May 19 to an unknown destination without the knowledge of the family members.
She said the during police investigation, it was discovered that the defendants lured the girl with a job offer but ended up abducting her for a month and 15 days.
When the charges were read to them, the defendants pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.
In his ruling, the judge, Mr George Gwani, sentenced each of the two men to three months’ imprisonment or a fine of N20, 000 for criminal conspiracy.
Gwani also sentenced each of them to two years’ imprisonment, with N50, 000 fine option  for abduction.
He held that the sentences should run concurrently.
