Iran is shifting its position in ceasefire talks with Washington, according to US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth. He expressed optimism on Saturday that President Trump would secure a breakthrough agreement.
Hegseth made the remarks while addressing the Shangri-La Dialogue, a major defence summit held in Singapore. Tehran understands American demands clearly, he noted.
"They're moving toward our position and discussions have been constructive," Hegseth told reporters. "They know what needs to happen, and I'm confident our president will strike a great deal."
During conversations with allied defence ministers at the summit, Hegseth said the Strait of Hormuz came up repeatedly. He reassured partners about America's commitment to regional security.
Tensions escalated dramatically on February 28 when the United States and Israel launched a coordinated military strike on Iran. That operation killed Iran's Supreme Leader and numerous other senior officials.
