Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has vowed to make those responsible for his father's death pay the price. He released the pledge through his official Telegram channel as funeral ceremonies honoured the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on February 28.
The airstrikes sparked a major regional conflict that claimed multiple lives across Iran. Mojtaba Khamenei said holding the perpetrators accountable reflects what "the nation demands" and what will inevitably happen.
In his written statement, he declared: "We pledge to avenge the blood of the martyred leader and all the martyrs of these two wars from the criminal and disgraced killers."
The new Iranian leader suggested that supporters of Iran across the globe would contribute to executing what he termed a sacred duty. He stated: "Whether we are here or not, this will be achieved, and soon individuals among the freedom-seekers across the world will each carry out part of this divine mission."
Khamenei's remarks represent his most forceful public comments since stepping into Iran's top leadership role following his father's death. The statement signals a hardline stance as the nation navigates the aftermath of the military strikes.
Iran has previously warned of retaliation for the attacks. The country has blamed American and Israeli forces for destabilising the region through their military actions.
International observers are watching closely as tensions remain high in the Middle East. Diplomatic efforts to ease US-Iran tensions have intensified among mediators seeking a fragile truce.
