President Bola Tinubu believes the 7-kilometre Tungan Madaki-Zuba road will unlock new investment opportunities across housing, education, healthcare and industry in the Federal Capital Territory. Speaking through House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas at Monday's inauguration ceremony in Abuja, Tinubu outlined his vision for the project's transformative potential.
The road aligns with efforts to fully integrate Abuja's satellite towns and gateway communities through modern infrastructure networks. Tinubu said the corridor is strategically positioned to relieve pressure on the city centre while offering commuters alternative routes.
"This road sends a clear signal to investors that this axis is open for housing, schools, health facilities and industries," Tinubu said. He stressed the project would strengthen economic activities along the Abuja-Kaduna-North West axis.
Communities like Tungan Madaki and Zuba have long powered Abuja's economy through farming and trading despite decades of inadequate road access. The new link will dramatically improve how people and goods move by connecting Tungan Madaki directly to the Abuja-Kaduna Road.
Travel times will shrink, vehicle operating costs will drop, and access to markets will expand, according to the president. These improvements come as the FCT Administration pursues wider infrastructure goals across the territory.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike noted that the Gwagwalada Area Council chairman had raised concerns about the need for direct Zuba-Abuja connectivity. The project emerged from those conversations as a priority infrastructure intervention.
Once complete, Zuba residents and surrounding communities gain improved access to Abuja and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport without routing through Gwagwalada. Wike told officials the administration is targeting December completion.
FCT Minister of State Mariya Mahmoud said the road will extend economic opportunities to underserved communities by boosting connectivity and attracting fresh investments. She pointed to improved commerce as a key benefit.
Richard Dauda, acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, said the road connects Bill Clinton Drive to the Federal Highway A2, the Kaduna-Abuja-Lokoja route, via Zuba. The project reaches communities including Tungan Wakili, Angwan Ashere, Tungan Jawa and others.
Dauda added that travellers from Zuba, Kaduna and Kogi states heading to the airport gain an alternative route. The link will unlock agricultural areas, strengthen security and support development of the FCT's emerging aerotropolis zone.
