President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, removing Wale Edun as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, and Ahmed Dangiwa as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

A statement issued Tuesday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation confirmed that Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while Muttaqha Darma emerges as Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development.

The directive, contained in a memo signed by George Akume, ordered immediate handover by the outgoing ministers, with all transition processes to be completed by Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Akume said the reshuffle is aimed at boosting coordination and improving service delivery across key sectors in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“These changes are to strengthen cohesion and ensure more impactful economic delivery to Nigerians,” he stated.

The presidency noted that the action is backed by constitutional provisions, citing Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empower the president to appoint and reshuffle cabinet members.

While thanking the outgoing ministers for their service, the government signalled that further cabinet adjustments may follow as part of ongoing efforts to reinvigorate governance.

Oyedele, who was appointed Minister of State for Finance in March 2026, now steps into the top finance role, succeeding Edun, who had served since August 2023.
