Tinubu names Olukoyede as EFCC boss

President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of Ola Olukoyede as the new Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Muhammad Hassan Hammajoda as the new Secretary of the commission.

Olukoyede, a lawyer with over 22 years of experience in regulatory compliance, fraud management, and corporate intelligence, was the former Secretary of the EFCC from 2018 to 2023. He was suspended along with the former acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu, in 2020 and never recalled. He also served as the Chief of Staff to Magu from 2016 to 2018.

Hammajoda, a public administrator and accountant, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Maiduguri. He started his career as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, before joining the banking sector.

The statement said that Olukoyede’s appointment was for a renewable term of four years in the first instance, pending Senate confirmation. Hammajoda’s appointment was for a renewable term of five years in the first instance, also pending Senate confirmation.
