A resident of Emevor Road, Agbarha-Otor in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria, Mrs. Judith Ovigue Edafe, has urgently called on the Nigerian Police Force to arrest and prosecute Aruma Sanusi for threats against her life and an attempted kidnapping.
In a petition addressed to the Nigerian Police Area Commander, Ughelli Area Command, dated May 14th, 2024, and signed by her lawyer, F. Essi of Legal Lords & Associates, Mrs. Edafe alleged that in March 2022, the suspect, Aruma Sanusi, along with others, stormed her residence on Aroh Road, Ughelli, armed with dangerous weapons including guns, cutlasses, and a battle axe. They allegedly fired shots into the air, forcibly entered her apartment at around 11:45 p.m., and began searching for her. During the attack, they took her phone, gold jewelry, and money.
The petition further stated that after the attack and attempted kidnapping, Mrs. Edafe relocated from Aroh Road. However, despite Sanusi’s initial arrest by the police, he was later granted bail and has since resurfaced, continuing to threaten her. These threats have left Mrs. Edafe in constant fear, making her life miserable.
The petition, titled "A CASE OF ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING, STEALING, AND BURGLARY BY ONE ARUNA SANUSI AND OTHERS," reads: “We have been briefed and our professional services retained by MRS. JUDITH OVIGUE EDAFE of No. 9 Emevor Road, Agbarha-Otor in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State of Nigeria. We shall hereinafter refer to her simply as 'Our Client'. We therefore write under her strict instructions and authority in respect of the above subject matter."
The petition details the events of March 2022, stating that Sanusi and his accomplices stormed Mrs. Edafe’s residence, armed with dangerous weapons, and fired shots into the air before breaking into her apartment. They searched for Mrs. Edafe and stole her belongings. The intervention of God that night is credited with preventing a more tragic outcome.
Despite their initial arrest and detention by the Ughelli Area Command, Sanusi and his associates were released on bail. Since then, Sanusi has reappeared in Mrs. Edafe's new neighborhood, boasting and threatening her. This has caused her to live in fear, as Sanusi and his gang openly claim that their connections will protect them from any legal repercussions. As a result, Mrs. Edafe has filed a new petition, urging the police to take immediate action against Sanusi and his accomplices.
Just recently Mrs. Edafe was rescued by a mob during a failed kidnapped attempt after being forced into a bush by a local farmer, however, alarm raised by a good spirited individual attracted a mob that recused and the kidnapper escaped into the bush.
The petition concludes by appealing to the police as the primary law enforcement authority in the area to arrest and charge the suspects, both to bring them to justice and to deter others from similar behavior, ensuring a peaceful and secure society.
As of the time of filing this report, attempts by Advocate.ng to obtain a response from the police regarding their failure to bring the suspects to justice were unsuccessful, and calls to the police spokesperson went unanswered.
