Tecnician docked for allegedly buying stolen cell phone

A technician, Mohammed Sadiq, was docked on Monday in a Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja for allegedly buying a stolen infinix cellphone worth N85, 000.

The police charged Sadiq, 24, of Kpaduma, Asokoro, Abuja with receiving stolen property.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Ade Adeyanju, told the court that the matter was reported at Asokoro police station of a stolen infinix worth N85, 000 against Peterson Alagi and Vinceny Ayuba all of Guzape , Asokoro.

Adeyanju said during Police investigation, it was discovered that the defendant bought the handset from the above mentioned culprits at the rate of N7,000 only knowing that it was stolen.

In the course of further investigation, the said handset was recovered from him.

Adeyanju said that the offence contravened the provisions of section 317 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Malam Umar Mayana, admitted the defendant bail in the sum of N60, 000 with two sureties in like sum, who must live within the court’s jurisdiction.

Mayana also ordered the sureties to submit verifiable means of identification and statement of account.

He adjourned the case until June 6, for hearing.
