Karim-Lamido Local Government Area in Taraba State has imposed a round-the-clock curfew. This follows fresh attacks by armed militia groups targeting Wurkum communities.
Suspected gunmen struck Didango, Mutum Daya Kodai, Gurum and surrounding villages multiple times. Several people were killed and many residents fled their homes.
Security forces had restored relative calm to the area just two days prior. But fresh violence erupted on Thursday and Friday, intensifying the crisis.
Council chairperson Mrs Virginia Baba Bambur signed the curfew order immediately after. She cited the escalating attacks and mounting casualties as reasons for the move.
In a statement, Bambur said the violence had become intolerable. She ordered all military and security agencies to enforce strict compliance.
The Army, Police, DSS and NSCDC received explicit instructions to monitor the curfew. Violators will face consequences, officials made clear.
Bambur promised a comprehensive investigation into what sparked the latest bloodshed. She vowed that perpetrators would face justice once identified.
Residents received reassurance from the local government that peace would return. Officials said restoration efforts were underway in all affected zones.
Karim-Lamido has suffered repeated clashes for years now. Tensions between Karimjo and Wurkum groups have fueled cycles of violence.
Previous incidents destroyed homes and displaced thousands of people. Economic activity has slowed dramatically across the region.
Community leaders now call for urgent dialogue between warring factions. They believe talks could prevent further bloodshed in coming weeks.
