Only politicians with genuine courage and a real commitment to serving people rather than chasing power can succeed in the African Democratic Congress, former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has said.
Tambuwal made the statement on Wednesday while welcoming Isa Salihu Kalenjeni, the immediate past Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, into the ADC. Kalenjeni had just quit his position and abandoned the ruling All Progressives Congress.
He challenged any politician convinced their work genuinely benefits ordinary Nigerians to openly join the ADC, regardless of what pressure they might face. "Anyone who believes that what he is doing is for the people and for the sake of God, not for personal gain, should have the courage to leave any political party and join the ADC," Tambuwal said.
The former governor claimed the APC was working to intimidate politicians planning to switch to the ADC. He alleged the ruling party was simultaneously trying to sow discord within opposition ranks.
According to Tambuwal, the APC now views the ADC as its biggest political threat. He attacked President Tinubu's administration over how it's handling Nigeria's security crisis, pointing out that widespread insecurity has left many Nigerians deeply frustrated with the ruling party.
Tambuwal commended Kalenjeni for stepping away from his council chairmanship and moving to the ADC without trying to negotiate special treatment. He called the move a genuine sacrifice that demonstrated real dedication to the party's values.
The development comes as major political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 elections, with various politicians reassessing their party affiliations. The ADC has been gradually attracting defectors from the APC and other parties.
