Sylva praises judiciary for restoring him as APC candidate in Bayelsa guber election

Timipre Sylva, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, has said that the judiciary has proven itself to be fair.

Sylva was earlier disqualified by the High Court in Abuja on October 9, on the grounds that he had already served five years as the governor of the state and could not run for another term.

The Court of Appeal overturned the high court ruling on Tuesday, restoring Sylva as an APC candidate for the November 11 gubernatorial election.

Sylva spoke to reporters on Tuesday in Abuja after meeting with Bukar Dalori, the Deputy National Chairman, North, and Senator Ajibola Bashir, the National Secretary of the party.

The former Minister of Petroleum expressed confidence that the APC would win the November 11 governorship election.

Sylva said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was afraid of his popularity and tried to stop him from contesting by using a court case.

Sylva said: “Today, when the court said that the person who did not take part in the process had no right to challenge me, I was a bit surprised, but the judiciary has shown itself to be just.”

He said that the person who sued him claimed to be an APC member but was actually working for the PDP.
