Supreme Court Set To Deliver Judgement On Nnamdi Kanu

The fate of Nnamdi Kanu lies in the hands of the Supreme Court after he spent a long time in the custody of the Department of Security Services.

Kanu was brought before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja after the Federal Government extradited him to Nigeria.

The ex-governor of Abia State was accused of four crimes: treasonable felony, conspiracy to commit treasonable felony, terrorism, illegal importation of radio equipment, and insulting former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The charges were later changed to a 15-count count on terrorism and belonging to a banned group.

Justice Binta Nyako, in her verdict, threw out 8 out of the 15 counts, saying that Mr. Kanu had to answer for the remaining 7 charges.

Unhappy with the verdict, Mr. Kanu took his case to the court of appeals.

The court of appeals cleared him of the remaining charges and ordered that Mr. Kanu be freed.

But in a surprise move, the court then stopped its own judgment from being carried out after the federal government had said they were taking the case to the Supreme Court.

Mr. Kanu is now fighting against the stop order given by the court of appeals, which kept him in custody, and the federal government is fighting against the decision of the appellate court clearing him of the remaining charges.
