EDO 2024: APC stalwart, Ohonbamu calls for power shift to Edo Central

Ahead of Ede State 2024 governorship election, a stalwart  All People’s Congress, APC, Rt. Hon. Paul Ohonbamu has call for come power shift to Edo Central as other senatorial district of the state has had their fair share as governor of the state.

Ohonbamu posited that the Benin Agenda can only flow from the Oba of Benin Kingdom, HRM, Omo N’ Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II who is a father and a rallying point of all men of Benin extraction and called on those politicians pushing the Benin Agenda with an ulterior motive of projecting a candidate from Edo South to desist from it as they do so for their own selfish reasons.

The former Commissioner for Communication and Orientation under Adams Oshiomhole administration made this known in an interview with our Correspondent in Benin recently.

According to him,  “Edo State is standing on three tripods; which are Edo South, Central, and North senatorial districts. South and North have had their historical possibilities and the only district that has not produced a governor is Edo Central.

“People tend to say that Prof. Oserhiemen Osunbor is from central and thus has exhausted their chance but my argument is that the 8 months of him being the governor cannot be compared to years spent by those governors from Edo north and south. That very administration was nullified and it’s as if there was no governor; which means it’s an interregnum.

“All am saying is that there is a need for power to spread, and allow free citizenship, love, and togetherness. If Edo South or North gets governorship again it will be in excess and the cure for excess is distribution. An organized sense of logic should tell you that since Edo south and north have had their turn, governorship should go to Edo central which is Esan”.

He further took s swipe at those accusing him of fighting the Benin Agenda saying that ” the Benin Agenda can only come from a source; a repository of Bini rites, divinity and request which is the Oba of Benin. And when it comes it touches on all Benins across political party divide and in the diaspora. He’s the one from whom all strength and virtue comes. He’s all-powerful and his source of strength remains a riddle wrapped in misery inside an enigma. Am a loyal subject of the Oba and when he says anything; I’ll be the greatest propagator. The Oba does not make mistakes nor apologize but politicians do. Your obedience to the Oba is obligatory by accent; nobody forces you, you must follow it because it’s inside you and what rotates in your interior monologue when you’re talking.

“Am telling my Benin people that pushing a position that will benefit yourself and your family calling it Benin Agenda is a joke taken too far. There should be an equitable distribution of power. The Edo Central people have shown love, support, and patience all along and it’s a clear sentiment that power should go to them”.

While condemning those saying that power should not be zoned but based on merit, Ohonbamu stressed that Edo Central boasts of qualified and competent governorship aspirants of which some are professors that has made their mark.

Ohonbamu who declared unwavering support for the candidacy of Senator Monday Okpebholo ( Akpakomiza ) describing him as an alternate government averred that apart from making interventions in areas government has failed the people, noted that allowing him to remain a senator serving only a section of a state makes him a “big man dressed in a little brief authority”.

On the possibility of Sen. Monday Okpebholo being outstanding a candidate fielded by a seating governor, the APC stalwart said that once the Senator gets his party nomination acceptability will be of general application.

“The power of incumbency will not work this time around. It worked with Sen. Adams Oshiomhole then because he demystified power. He touched on every life to the extent that he raised the bar of governance and development infrastructure-wise. So when he projected someone as governor people had no choice but to support him because of the trust people had for him.

“Not having a Monday Okpebholo-led government come 2024 will be paradise lost and as we speak Edocalledte is highly infested and Akpakomiza is the only antibiotic that will be a permanent cure for it”.
