SPDC to invest $228 million in Nigeria Educational sector

The Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) has said that it invested a whooping $228 million in the Nigeria Education sector as its contribution to national development.

SPDC made the revelation in the 2018 Edition of its briefing notes handed to Journalists in Warri, Delta State.

The oil giant stated that it has sponsored 8,192 secondary school and 5,034 university students in educational scholarships.

According to the briefing note, Shell Company prides itself of having a long history of supporting education through scholarships and other initiatives for a long time.

It further added that in 2017, the sum of $5.2 million was invested in scholarship by SPDC Joint venture and SNEPCO. Those educational grants were awarded to 540 secondary school students and 599 University undergraduates.

SPDC stressed that it recognizes education as a critical need for its host communities residing in the area of its operation.

The notes maintained that in 2016, the company donated a block of five classrooms, a stand-alone toilet facility, and school water system, upgraded football field and renovated five blocks of 19 classrooms for shared use by African church community secondary school and the Ebenezer African church primary school in Ewupe.
