Senior citizens receive Elderly Grants “Owo Arugbo” in Mushin

By Kazeem Akande

The Chairman of Mushin Local Government Area in Lagos State, Mr Emmanuel Bamigboye, has presented quarterly stipends (Owo Arugbo) to some senior citizens and widows in Mushin community.

Bamigboye while presenting the grants on Tuesday thanked the elderly for their support during the 2023 general elections which gave the ruling party victory in Mushin.

He said that in spite not making provision for the aged in the constitution, he believes in taking care of the aged in the community as it was a source of blessing from God.

“I am concerned about the manner in which the senior citizens are being treated by their families and communities, despite their sacrifices and contributions to the country.

“I compare this gesture to the story of Jesus Christ in the Bible, who fed 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fishes, which was blessed by God to satisfy the people.

“The money is a stipend to support their needs while the food pack is just a little to serve them for a while,” Bagmiboye said.

He advised them to spend the money wisely and be prudent in their lifestyle in order to enjoy the little being given to them.

Mr Adebayo Lawal, one of the beneficiaries while responding, expressed gratitude to the council boss for the concern to the elderly.

Lawal thanked the council boss whom he said  had never stopped in giving them the stipend since his assumption as council chairman in 2017.

“The elderly in the community confirmed that Mushin local government has never produced a sympathetic and generous chairman like Bamigboye,” Lawal said.

Mr Daniel Adeoti, also a beneficiary,  prayed for him to triumph and succeed in his future political career.

Mrs Funmilayo Adetutu, the Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in Mushin also expressed appreciation to the chairman for the kind gesture.

Adetutu also thanked members of the management team for their support in sustaining the programme to make life comfortable for senior citizens and widows in Mushin.
