Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, has continued to exceed expectations, fulfilling promises made to his Anioma constituency and leaving a remarkable impact in just over a year in office. Known for his dedication and genuine commitment, many initially doubted the senator’s ability to deliver, viewing his campaign promises as the usual political rhetoric.
Senator Nwoko’s initial bid for the Senate in 2015 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was unsuccessful, with the seat going to Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, who later joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, when the opportunity came in 2023, Nwoko was ready to serve, leveraging his business acumen and legislative experience to hit the ground running. His actions in the Senate have demonstrated a commitment to Anioma's development and set him apart as one of the most active voices in the chamber.
In his first year, Senator Nwoko has been a consistent advocate for Delta North, showing both resolve and effectiveness in his approach. He is frequently seen at Senate plenary sessions and committee meetings, speaking up on issues that affect his constituency and the nation at large. One example is his vocal support for relief efforts following the tragic bombing in Kaduna, where he and other senators collectively donated their December salaries to support affected families.
Senator Nwoko’s dedication to Delta North is further demonstrated by his engagement with local communities. He has addressed issues such as boundary disputes, environmental concerns, and infrastructure, including an all-in-one solar street lighting project in Kwale, Ndokwa West, which has significantly improved safety and accessibility for residents. Additionally, his influence has helped initiate remedial work on critical sections of the Benin-Asaba Highway, following consultations with FERMA’s Managing Director.
From spearheading legislative initiatives like securing 100 megawatts from the Okpai Power Plant for Anioma communities to advocating for the Ogwashi-Uku dam’s water distribution phase, Senator Nwoko has proven to be an effective and visionary leader. As the only Delta PDP Senator in the National Assembly, he has managed to garner support from opposition colleagues to advance his constituency’s welfare, making significant strides towards turning Delta North into a model district for development.
