Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has identified France and Spain as the standout contenders for World Cup glory. He made the remarks during a press briefing before Argentina's quarter-final meeting with Switzerland this coming weekend.
Scaloni praised both European sides for their performances in the tournament so far. "I have not heard people saying Spain against France is an early final, but of course it is," he told reporters.
"They are two outstanding teams, two of the favourites, and unfortunately, one of them will go out," the Argentina manager added. He went on to commend their quality and impact on the pitch.
"They are doing things very well. They're a frightening side," Scaloni said.
France and Spain earned their semi-final spots by defeating Morocco and Belgium respectively in the quarter-finals.
The two nations will square off in the semi-final on Tuesday. Scaloni's comments come as Argentina prepares to face Switzerland in their own quarter-final clash.
