Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated the newly constituted State Science, Research, and Innovation Council (LASRIC) and Cybersecurity Advisory Board.
The event, which took place at the Lagos House in Ikeja, was aimed at advancing scientific innovations in the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, announced a N1 billion take-off grant for the effective commencement of the council's activities.
The governor emphasized the importance of innovation, science, and technology in achieving the state's development goals under the THEMES Plus Agenda.
The LASRIC has supported more than 70 initiatives in various areas, including biomass, biodiesel, and artificial intelligence for medical imaging, with a 250% increase in innovation activity within the state.
The newly constituted council will focus on key areas such as increased funding, collaboration, capacity building, and the promotion of a culture of innovation.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also inaugurated the state's Cybersecurity Advisory Board, charging them with the mandate to establish a robust protection ecosystem to safeguard the quality of life for all citizens.
The governor stressed the importance of cybersecurity in protecting the state's digital assets and ensuring the success of its development agenda.
Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, Mr. Tobosun Alake, highlighted the Sanwo-Olu administration's commitment to enhancing technology and digital solutions to improve the quality of life for citizens.
Both council chairmen, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya (LASRIC) and Dr. Osakwe Fene (Cybersecurity), assured the government of their commitment to the mandate of their respective councils.
The inauguration of these councils marks a significant step in Lagos State's commitment to innovation, science, technology, and cybersecurity, as it strives to become a smart, livable, and cyber-protected city.
