The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), as the winner of the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election, following a landslide victory across the 21 local government areas of the state.
Announcing the result in Awka on Sunday, the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, said Soludo polled a total of 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 99,445 votes. The Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, came third with 37,753 votes, while the Labour Party (LP), led by former governor Peter Obi, finished a distant fourth with 10,576 votes.
According to INEC, the state had 2,788,864 registered voters, of which 598,229 were accredited. A total of 595,298 votes were cast, with 584,054 valid and 11,244 rejected. The Returning Officer confirmed that “the margin of lead between the top candidates was far greater than the total number of cancelled votes, hence the result stands.”
Declaring the winner, Omoregie stated: “Having scored the highest number of valid votes and satisfied the requirements of the law, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance is hereby declared elected and returned as Governor of Anambra State.”
“I, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, Returning Officer for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election, hereby declare that the election was peaceful. Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, having scored 422,664 votes — the highest number of valid votes cast and having satisfied the requirements of the law — is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.”
The victory marks Soludo’s second consecutive term and reaffirms APGA’s political dominance in Anambra, with the former Central Bank Governor sweeping all 21 local government areas in one of the most peaceful and transparent polls in recent years.
