President Bola Tinubu's sweeping reforms are positioning Nigeria for sustained economic growth and prosperity, Information Minister Mohammed Idris has said. The minister made this assertion on Tuesday when leaders of the APC Forum of Former Presiding Officers of State Houses of Assembly visited him in Abuja.
Idris praised the forum for its role in strengthening democracy and driving national progress. He committed the Federal Government's media agencies—the Nigerian Television Authority, the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria and the News Agency of Nigeria—to covering the group's upcoming meetings.
Over the past three years, the administration has taken tough but vital steps to unlock economic potential, the minister explained. He listed the scrapping of fuel subsidies, overhaul of the foreign exchange system, and stronger fiscal resources for federal and state governments among key moves.
The government has also expanded the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and boosted external reserves, he added. "We're seeing better GDP growth, major infrastructure projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway," Idris noted.
Security operations have intensified as well, according to the minister. He stressed that President Tinubu made decisions his predecessors had shelved for decades.
"Today, Nigeria enjoys stronger fiscal stability, rising investor confidence and growing infrastructure development," Idris said. "We've laid the groundwork for a more prosperous future."
The minister urged forum members to leverage their experience and local connections to help Nigerians understand the Renewed Hope Agenda. He emphasised that the reforms will pay long-term dividends.
Forum chairman Sen. Wasiu Esinlokun explained that the delegation came to update Idris on its activities and request media support for its forthcoming national meeting.
The gathering will bring together former state legislators, ex-governors, former ministers and senior senators, he said.
Esinlokun stressed that the forum remains dedicated to building grassroots backing for the Renewed Hope Agenda across Nigeria. The delegation also included forum secretary Prof.
Matoh Dogara and director of production, publication and documentary Ibidapo Okunnu.
