Nigeria's youth face mounting pressure from joblessness and the urgent need to master digital tools in a tech-powered economy. The Lagos State Government has responded by launching the Renewed Hope Creative and Innovative Hub, designed to arm young people with skills, guidance and business support to launch their own ventures.
Idris Aregbe, special adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on tourism, arts and culture, is steering the initiative. He said it will empower young Nigerians through digital innovation, practical training, business incubation and leadership development—shifting their focus from job-hunting to job-creation.
Aregbe announced the hub's launch on Tuesday, calling it a critical investment in human capital. He said the project mirrors President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda while backing the Lagos State Government's THEMES+ development agenda, which emphasises economic growth, innovation and youth empowerment.
The platform aims to close the distance between talented young people and genuine opportunities available to them. "The Renewed Hope Creative and Innovative Hub is built for the young and the vibrant dreamers and the doers," Aregbe told reporters.
"Through skills acquisition, mentorship, entrepreneurship and digital innovation, we will nurture the next generation of leaders, creators and changemakers."
Participants will gain hands-on training in digital and creative skills, develop leadership abilities and learn business management. Aregbe noted they'll also access networking chances and partnerships to turn fresh ideas into profitable businesses.
The adviser stressed that the hub will promote self-reliance and shrink youth joblessness by creating pathways into employment and entrepreneurship. "Our goal is to equip young people to become self-reliant, build sustainable livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to the development of Lagos State and Nigeria," he said.
"Talent is everywhere, but opportunity must be deliberately created."
Aregbe described the hub as more than just a building. Rather, he said it represents a lasting commitment to growing entrepreneurs, innovators and creative professionals who can reshape the economy.
He commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for backing policies that open doors for young people, crediting the governor's focus on youth development with helping Lagos grow as Nigeria's commercial and innovation capital. Aregbe also applauded Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat for championing youth-centred programmes and inclusive governance.
The launch reflects broader moves by government and business leaders to tackle Nigeria's youth employment crisis through digital skills training, innovation funding and entrepreneurial backing. Lagos already hosts the country's biggest startup ecosystem and creative economy sector, positioning the new hub to cement the state's status as a top innovation destination.
