Police Inspector Lynched by Motorcyclists in Delta State

On Sunday, October 15, 2023, a group of angry motorcyclists lynched a police inspector in Delta State. The victim, Festus Onori, was travelling with his wife and three children to church when he was involved in a minor accident with a motorcyclist in Okpanam. He got out of his car to check on the motorcyclist and his passenger, who were not injured, but was met with hostility by more than 20 men who pursued him with weapons.

He managed to get back into his car and drove away, but the mob followed him to the Ogwashi-Uku-Kwale Motorway, where he ran out of fuel. They then pulled him out of his car and brutally killed him in front of his terrified family. They also damaged his car.

The deceased inspector was attached to the Marine Police Station, Cable Point, Asaba, according to his elder brother, Austin. He said that his brother was a gentle and law-abiding person who did not deserve such a cruel fate.

The state police spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, said that he had not been officially informed about the incident and could not make any comment on it. However, he promised that the police would look into the case and bring the culprits to justice.
