Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has pledged his administration's commitment to transparency and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force.
He says openness and integrity must form the bedrock of modern policing in Nigeria.
Disu made the remarks Thursday at an emergency conference with police commissioners and journalists at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre in Abuja.
His leadership aims to transform the force into a more professional and people-focused institution. Nigerians must regain confidence in law enforcement, he said.
According to Disu, transparency remains critical to the ongoing reform programme under his administration. Public trust comes only through openness and ethical conduct at all levels.
"Transparency is the foundation of the new Nigeria Police Force I am committed to building," he stated. "I have nothing to hide, and neither should any officer under my command."
Disu emphasized that the force would move swiftly against misconduct and breaches of professional standards. Accountability mechanisms would be strengthened to ensure discipline among personnel.
His reform agenda focuses on enhancing operational discipline nationwide. Respect for human rights and improved service delivery matter equally, he noted.
Senior officers at the gathering received a reminder about upholding integrity and professionalism. Public scrutiny of security agencies has intensified in recent times.
