Police arraign man, 23, over alleged malicious damage

The police on Friday arraigned a 23-year old man, Tope Ogunbiyi, at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged malicious damage.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a one count charge.
The police prosecutor, Insp Caleb Leramo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 25 at about 02:30 p.m. at Basiri Area in Ado-Ekiti.
Leramo alleged that the defendant maliciously damaged a vehicle windscreen valued at N45,000, property of State Ministry of Works.
He said the offence contravened the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him, while his counsel, Mr Oluwafemi Adenigba, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one other in like sum.
He adjourned the case until July 24 for hearing.
