The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has charged Nigerians to contribute their quota to nation building irrespective of religious and political affiliations.
Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, NOA Director in Kwara, gave the charge on Saturday, when he led a team on an advocacy visit on Jamatul Nasril Isam (JNI), and Council of Ulamas in Kwara.
Adeyemi said the visit was part of the agency’s efforts to ensure post-2023 elections peace building and peaceful co-existence amongst citizens regardless of political affiliations or ethnic backgrounds.
He stated that the agency had been engaging traditional rulers, religious leaders and the media, to ensure peace building and stabilisation of democracy in Nigeria.
The NOA Kwara team, was received by the Secretary General of JNI and Chief Imam, Kwara State University Mosque, Prof. Hamza Abdulraheem alongside eminent members, Council of Ulamas in the state.
Adeyemi said that elections had come and gone, but Nigerians must maintain peace and peaceful co-existence with one another.
He reiterated the importance of religious leaders spreading the gospel of peace amongst citizens.
“’This prompted our visit to seek support for NOA’s call for continuous peaceful co-existence nationwide, particularly after the general elections,” Adeyemi said.
In his response, Abdulraheem commended NOA for its efforts in the onerous task of nation building.
He said the issues of peace and peaceful co-existence were essentially the duty of religious leaders, adding that all religious leaders must preach peace at all times.
The cleric said that nothing was more important than peace to human existence, sighting the unfortunate war situation in Sudan, where many had died and many more displaced.
He said that peace had always been a subject of sermon, not only at Jumat prayers, but at other occasions.
Abdulraheem assured that peace and peaceful co-existence would receive more attention by religious leaders through JNI and Council of Ulamas in Kwara.
