The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding what they describe as "fantasies" of taking over Rivers State.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, emphasized that the APC's plot to instigate a crisis and truncate the will of the people of Rivers State has been exposed and ultimately failed.
Ologunagba's statement came in response to a press conference held by the Rivers State Caretaker Chairman of the APC, Tony Okocha, who expressed intentions to overturn the results of the governorship election that saw Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the PDP emerge victorious.
The PDP spokesman described Okocha's statements as reckless and hallucinatory, highlighting the APC's sinister plot to forcefully overthrow the democratic order in Rivers State.
The PDP further accused the APC of attempting to instigate crisis and impose an anti-democratic regime in violation of the Nigerian Constitution.
The use of the word "war" by Okocha in his statement was seen as indicative of an evil intention that has been firmly resisted by the people of Rivers State.
The PDP called on the Federal Government and the national leadership of the APC to rein in and caution Okocha, labeling him an agent of destabilization and a threat to democracy in Nigeria.
The party also demanded that the Inspector General of Police invite Okocha and hold him personally liable for his utterances, which they believe constitute a clear and present danger to the sustenance of democracy and peace in the country.
The PDP reiterated its warning to the APC to perish the thought of forcefully taking over Rivers State, emphasizing that the people of Rivers State are solidly behind the PDP administration and its delivery of democracy dividends.
The party urged the international community to take note of the reckless outburst of Okocha, whose actions and utterances could negatively affect the overall security of the country.
As tensions rise between the PDP and APC in Rivers State, it remains to be seen how this political rivalry will unfold and whether the APC will heed the PDP's warnings and abandon its alleged plans to undermine the will of the people.
