The Nigeria Customs Service has dismissed a fake recruitment advertisement circulating on social media and called on fraudsters to stop exploiting job seekers. The agency warned the public to ignore the bogus posting made in its name across various online platforms.
In a statement released Thursday, the Service urged Nigerians to trust only information from its official channels when seeking updates on recruitment drives and other activities. "Recruitment scams have become a recurring challenge in Nigeria, with fraudsters often exploiting public interest in government jobs by circulating fake advertisements and soliciting money from unsuspecting applicants," the statement read.
The customs authority noted that security agencies and government institutions have repeatedly cautioned citizens against responding to unofficial job notices. According to the Service, people should verify any recruitment information through its legitimate platforms before acting on such messages or sharing them with others.
The agency reiterated its position in the statement: "Members of the public are advised to disregard the publication and rely only on information disseminated through the official communication channels of the Nigeria Customs Service." The warning reflects growing concerns about how criminals target vulnerable Nigerians desperate for stable employment in the public sector.
