The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State is taking decisive steps to prevent former governor Ayo Fayose from influencing the party's structure, warning him and his supporters to look elsewhere for political affiliations.
The warning was issued during a recent stakeholders and leaders meeting in Ado-Ekiti, where concerns about the party's future and integrity were discussed.
Former PDP chairman, Gboyega Oguntuase, accused Fayose of being a mole for the All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that the APC is attempting to infiltrate the PDP in preparation for the 2026 governorship election.
He claimed that Fayose betrayed the party during the last elections and continues to undermine its efforts.
Oguntuase emphasized the need for a new chairman with integrity, suggesting Funsho Ayeni as a candidate who can stand firm against intimidation and ensure the party's survival.
The PDP is also considering the possibility of adopting a chairman who is young and vibrant, capable of preventing the party from being hijacked by self-serving individuals.
The PDP's strategy involves focusing on regaining the governorship in 2026 before considering zoning arrangements. The party believes that a strong, unified leadership is crucial for its success in the upcoming election.
