The Delta State Police Command has arrested a community leader and five others suspects over alleged sexual assaults during a local "Rape Festival" in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area.

The arrests followed the circulation of disturbing viral videos from Oramudu Quarters, which reportedly showed young women being molested and sexually assaulted during the gathering, sparking outrage across the state.

In a statement issued on March 20, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, condemned the incident in strong terms, describing it as criminal, inhumane, and a gross violation of the victims’ dignity and fundamental rights.

According to the police, the chief organiser of the event, Chief Omorede Sunday, and four other suspects have been taken into custody, alongside the head of the Oramudu community.

The Commissioner has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough probe, with tactical teams deployed to track down other suspects still at large.

“The Command unequivocally condemns such acts in their entirety. Sexual violence is criminal and unacceptable under any guise,” the statement said.

The police urged victims and witnesses to come forward with credible information, assuring that all reports would be treated with strict confidentiality and professionalism.

CP Adesola also appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, reaffirming the Command’s resolve to protect lives and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.

The Command added that anyone found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
