Oyo State Police Command has dismissed viral videos and voice notes claiming terrorists have moved into forests near Ogbomoso and Old Oyo National Park. The command called the allegations completely false and without any factual support.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ayanlade Olayinka made the denial in a statement on Tuesday. He said intelligence reports available to the command show no evidence of terrorist infiltration in those areas.

According to him, investigators found the circulating video isn't new at all. It's an old clip being recycled deliberately to spark fear among residents.

The police urged Nigerians to stop sharing unverified security information on social media. Officials must confirm reports before people pass them along, Olayinka noted.

Despite debunking the claims, police say they remain committed to protecting residents. Security operatives have been posted to border communities and vulnerable locations across the region.

Officers are working with local hunters, vigilante groups, and traditional rulers. They're gathering intelligence together and sharing information quickly, police confirmed.

Patrols have increased significantly across Ogbomoso and adjoining border areas. These moves aim to reassure residents and deter criminals, the command said.

Oyo police called on border community residents to stay alert. Citizens should report any suspicious movement or activity to the nearest police station immediately.

The command expressed serious worry about fake news spreading on social media. False security alerts create panic and undermine public confidence in authorities.

Such reports also disrupt business activities and waste police resources. Officers must focus on real threats, not chasing misinformation, police argued.

Spreading false security information is both irresponsible and illegal. People who deliberately create or share such content face criminal charges under Nigerian law.

Police warned that deliberate misinformation damages the relationship between police and citizens. Public cooperation is essential for maintaining security across the state.

The command urged media outlets and online platforms to verify facts carefully. Only credible information should reach the public, officials insisted.

Residents who encounter suspicious content should report it to police immediately. This helps authorities track down those responsible for spreading lies.

Ogbomoso and surrounding communities remain safe and secure currently. Police presence will continue to be strong in the region going forward.
