The Nigerian Railway Corporation will temporarily halt its Kajola-Apapa passenger train service for three weeks starting July 6 to allow for critical maintenance work on locomotives and coaches. Dr Kayode Opeifa, the NRC's managing director and chief executive, announced the decision via the corporation's official X account on Tuesday.

The last train on the route will run on July 3, with services resuming on July 27, according to Opeifa. He stressed that freight operations serving the Apapa Port Complex and other terminals across both narrow and standard gauge lines will continue uninterrupted during the suspension.

The NRC chief reminded commuters that the Lagos Mass Transit Train service operates on weekdays only. Morning trains depart Ijoko at 6:30 a.m. and Kajola at 7:00 a.m. heading to Iddo, he noted.

Evening return services leave Iddo at 5:30 p.m. for Ijoko and 6:15 p.m. for Kajola, Opeifa added. He encouraged passengers to use these alternative services during the temporary shutdown of the Kajola-Apapa route.

Opeifa said the corporation regrets any inconvenience the suspension will cause residents and commuters. The maintenance is essential to guarantee continued safety, reliability and efficiency of train operations across the network, he explained.

"We appreciate your patience, understanding and continued patronage," he concluded.
