Governor Seyi Makinde has extended a curfew across 10 local government areas in Oyo State for another 24 hours.
Professor Musibau Babatunde, the Secretary to the State Government, announced the decision in a statement Thursday evening. Dr.
Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor's chief press secretary, released it to journalists.
Makinde had previously imposed the curfew on councils surrounding Old Oyo National Park. Security concerns in the area prompted the initial measure.
Thirty-nine students and seven teachers are currently being held in the park, according to reports. Their abduction triggered the emergency restrictions.
Originally set for 48 hours, the curfew now extends until Saturday, June 27, 2026. This gives authorities additional time to address the hostage situation.
Ten councils are affected by the order. They include Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, and Saki East.
Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba also fall under the curfew restrictions. All ten councils border the national park.
Residents of the state have grown increasingly worried about security in this region. Officials haven't yet provided updates on rescue efforts.
