Outdated Oronsaye Report Requires Update Before Implementation, Says Shehu Sani

In an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today, former lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani expressed the need for an update to the Oronsaye Report before its implementation.

The Oronsaye Report, commissioned in 2012, aimed to streamline and restructure federal government parastatals, commissions, departments, and agencies.

However, according to Senator Sani, the report has become outdated due to the creation of new agencies and commissions since its inception.

Sani highlighted the role of legislators in the proliferation of federal agencies and commissions, stating that their performance is often measured by the number of bills they sponsor or the creation of new agencies resulting from their initiatives.

However, he argued that this approach does not align with Nigeria’s economic realities, as the country is facing financial constraints.

To address this issue, Senator Sani proposed that the President should invite Oronsaye and his committee to update the report based on the new commissions and agencies that have been created after the initial report was published.

He emphasized that implementing the report without updating it would be ineffective, as it is now out of date.

The outdated Oronsaye Report requires an update before implementation to ensure it reflects the current state of federal agencies and commissions, and to align with Nigeria’s economic realities.
