Dr Oyelami Saliu wants Osun residents to stop wishing Governor Ademola Adeleke dead. The PRP governorship candidate made this plea on Friday during a media parley organized by the Osun Online Publishers Association.
Saliu, who is a medical doctor, was responding to the recent stage collapse that injured the governor. He said Adeleke would live long enough to hand over power after the 2026 election.
"Adeleke will not die; he will be alive to hand over to me," Saliu declared. According to him, political contests shouldn't involve wishing harm on opponents.
Saliu acknowledged that Governor Adeleke has tried in office. But he argued the achievements so far don't match what Osun people deserve.
"The incumbent governor of Osun State has done his best. Clearly, it is time to change the current leadership," he told reporters.
"It is time for the PRP to take over the reins of governance in Osun State."
His decision to run, Saliu explained, comes from believing the state needs a fresh approach. He said if Adeleke was performing well enough, he wouldn't be challenging him.
Saliu promised that his administration would outperform the current one across multiple sectors. He also pledged to continue beneficial projects already started by the present government.
On airport development, the PRP candidate took a cautious stance. He said he'd conduct a thorough review of both airport projects currently under construction before deciding which one to complete.
Saliu explained that his administration would rank projects based on feasibility and economic returns. Projects capable of driving statewide development would get priority, he noted.
Confidence marked his closing remarks about his party's capacity to lead Osun forward. The candidate believes PRP has what it takes to move the state ahead.
