Ondo State police have arrested three men suspected of running an interstate armed robbery gang that targeted victims across Ondo and Lagos. The command announced the seizure at a press briefing in Akure on Monday.
Commissioner of police Felix Ohagwu identified the suspects as Promise Daniel, 34; Ifeanyi Umahi, 29; and Adaramoye Abayomi, 37. Officers picked them up on Saturday, July 18, 2026, during an intelligence-driven operation.
The arrests stem from an armed robbery incident reported on June 14, 2026, in Ita-Ogbolu, within Akure North local government area. Police tracked the men using surveillance and tip-offs before intercepting their ash-coloured Mercedes-Benz ML 350 SUV.
Officers recovered significant firepower from the vehicle: one AK-47 rifle with a loaded magazine containing 18 rounds, one English-made Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds, plus an axe and iron cutter. The weapons haul suggests serious intent.
Ohagwu told reporters the men belong to a criminal network already flagged by the command for violent robberies across Ondo state. "The suspects are members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate that has been on the Command's watchlist," he said.
During questioning, all three made confessions about their roles and the weapons they carried. The admissions have proved valuable for investigators pursuing other gang members still at large.
Police say the information gleaned from the suspects is now helping them track fleeing accomplices and piece together the full scope of the gang's criminal activities.
