The lawmaker representing Ughelli North Constituency I in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Omonade, has formally declared his intention to seek a second term, emphasising continuity, experience, and grassroots impact as pillars of his re-election bid.
Omonade made the declaration on Monday during a consultation with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Local Government Executive Committee at the party’s secretariat in Ughelli, where he presented a detailed account of his stewardship and legislative performance.
Addressing party leaders, the lawmaker said his re-election bid was anchored not on promises but on verifiable achievements, including bills sponsored and co-sponsored, as well as constituency interventions spanning infrastructure, job creation, empowerment programmes, and scholarships.
He stressed that governance requires experience and consistency, arguing that continuity remains essential to sustaining and expanding ongoing development efforts in the constituency. According to him, abandoning the progress already recorded would undermine the gains made in recent years.
Omonade reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and aligned his legislative agenda with the development vision of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, whose support he credited for enabling several of his achievements.
The consultation drew a large turnout of party stakeholders, political leaders, and grassroots supporters from across the constituency, reflecting broad-based backing for his re-election bid. Prominent figures from Agbarha, Orogun, Ogor, and Evwreni wards were in attendance, alongside youth and women groups.
The lawmaker described the engagement as a moment of accountability and renewed commitment to the people, assuring party leaders of his readiness to deepen representation and expand development initiatives if re-elected.
He also used the opportunity to express appreciation to constituents and political stakeholders for their continued support, pledging to build on existing gains and deliver greater dividends of democracy.
With consultations underway, Omonade’s campaign is gathering momentum, driven by a message of continuity, proven performance, and sustained grassroots development ahead of the 2027 elections.
APC Ughelli North Chairman, Chief Lucky Ufomukoro, commended the turnout and offered prayers for his success as consultations continue.
