Young Nigerians' futures rest squarely on their parents' shoulders, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has declared. God will bless parental efforts if mothers and fathers work diligently and pray without ceasing for their children.
He made this assertion at a chapel service in Iyana Offa, Ibadan on Sunday. A ceremony marking Christianity's anniversary in Ibadanland and honouring the late Oba Isaac Babalola Akinyele was underway.
Speaking through his representative, Mogaji Allen Tunji Ajala Odugade, Oba Ladoja warned parents sternly. They must prevent their children from becoming political thugs, kidnappers, or land grabbers, he cautioned.
Drug addiction has destroyed countless young lives across the nation. Parents cannot allow their wards to sink into such criminal pursuits and vices.
According to Ayoade Solomon Olugbemiga, the monarch's press secretary, Oba Ladoja had stronger words. He urged all religious leaders to champion tolerance and peaceful coexistence regardless of faith differences.
"Let unity, love, brotherhood and religious tolerance guide us across Ibadan, Oyo State and Nigeria," he noted. Such values must become the foundation of society moving forward.
Oba Ladoja expressed gratitude to the Almighty. He'd lived to witness both the Christianity anniversary celebration and the immortalisation of his predecessor.
During his sermon, Venerable Isaac Olaleye, the Vicar-in-Charge, praised Oba Akinyele's commitment to faith. Personal conviction, total submission and fervent prayer had propelled him to evangelize successfully, the clergyman observed.
Citing Scripture, Ven. Olaleye urged citizens to draw closer to God during these challenging times.
Nigerians must abandon sin and demonstrate love toward one another, he insisted.
A special posthumous award went to the family of the late Oba Akinyele at the service. Oba Ladoja's representative presented the honour on his behalf.
Mogaji Dele Fasola and Baale Olatinwo Adeagbo attended the ceremony. Family members of Oba Akinyele, archdeacons, priests and other prominent guests were also present.
The service underscored the deep spiritual roots Christianity has planted in Ibadanland over generations. It also celebrated one paramount ruler's unwavering dedication to spreading the gospel message throughout the region.
