Oborevwori’s record already shaping 2027 politics in Delta — Aniagwu

The Delta State Government has declared that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s performance is already redefining the political conversation ahead of the 2027 elections, citing widespread infrastructure delivery, improved security, and fiscal discipline as key indicators.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, asserted during an interview on Politics Tonight on TVC, where he outlined what he described as the administration’s far-reaching achievements.

“The election is not stopping him; campaigns are not stopping him in any way. He is progressing very speedily and steadily with the promises he made,” Aniagwu said, stressing that development projects are visible across the state’s three senatorial districts.

Highlighting security as a major success, he stated: “One major achievement is the security of lives and property across Delta. That is why investors are coming in. We have demonstrated that Delta can be peaceful and safe.”

Aniagwu provided updates on ongoing and completed infrastructure projects, noting that Julius Berger is executing several landmark developments. Beyond the three major bridges in Warri and its environs, he listed the DSC Roundabout Bridge, Enerhen Junction Bridge, PTI Junction Bridge, and the slipway at Effurun Roundabout. Additional projects, he said, include works at Uromi Junction in Agbor, Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli, and road expansions towards the Nigerian Ports Authority axis.

He disclosed that the DSC Roundabout and Enerhen Junction bridges are already in use, while the PTI Junction Bridge is nearing completion.

The commissioner also highlighted the completion of the 137-kilometre stretch from Koka Junction in Asaba to Ughelli, which he said has reduced travel time to Warri to about one hour and fifty minutes.

Other projects referenced include the over 30-kilometre Ohoror–Bomadi Road, the Aboh–Akarai Road and Bridge in Ndokwa East valued at nearly N30 billion, and the completion of 15 bridges and access roads in riverine communities in Ode Itsekiri. He added that firms such as CCECC and Levant Construction are also actively engaged across the state.

Aniagwu explained that the establishment of the Ministry of Works (Rural Roads) and the Directorate of Riverine Infrastructure was aimed at accelerating development in underserved communities, alongside interventions by DESOPADEC.

On equitable project distribution, he revealed that the governor introduced a funding policy allocating specific sums to each of the 25 local government areas. According to him, N1 billion per council was provided in 2024, and increased to N2.1 billion in 2025. For 2026, he said allocations rose to N3 billion per local government, with an additional N4 billion intervention fund, totalling N7 billion per council.

“There is no single state with that kind of specific provision for its local governments,” Aniagwu asserted.

To ensure quality control, he said Governor Oborevwori personally inspects projects and enforces strict adherence to engineering standards. He added that a whistleblower policy allows residents to report substandard work directly to the governor.

“The number is managed by the governor himself. Citizens send information, and action is taken immediately. Contractors are queried where necessary,” he said.

Aniagwu also noted that the administration banned indiscriminate mixing of concrete on tarred roads and pavements to prevent structural damage.

Beyond roads and bridges, he cited investments in erosion control, flood mitigation, and storm drainage systems, particularly in urban centres. Beautification initiatives, tree planting, and the installation of solar-powered streetlights, he added, have enhanced security and aesthetics.

On federal collaboration, he commended the Federal Government for progress on access roads to the Second Niger Bridge and the Benin–Asaba corridor, including concrete pavement construction between the Head Bridge and Summit Junction.

Addressing the blue economy initiative, Aniagwu disclosed that the state government has opened access to the River Niger corridor near Government House, Asaba, with a dual carriageway leading to the riverbank.

On fiscal management, he maintained: “We are solvent not because we receive more than other states, but because we manage our resources judiciously and deliver results.”

Aniagwu expressed confidence that Governor Oborevwori’s performance would remain the decisive factor in future electoral outcomes, insisting that development is evident across the state.
