Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has declared that his administration is redefining development in riverine communities through strategic infrastructure investments, as he commissioned the reconstructed 31-kilometre Ohoror–Bomadi Road.

Speaking at the inauguration on Tuesday, the governor described the project as a landmark achievement designed to boost connectivity and economic activities across key local government areas, including Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Patani, Burutu, and Bomadi.

“We are resolved to rewrite the story of our riverine communities. Our administration is committed to ensuring that sustainable development gets to every part of the state, regardless of terrain or location,” Oborevwori stated.

He said the road would significantly enhance socio-economic activities by easing transportation, improving access to essential services, and opening up new economic opportunities for residents, particularly in previously underserved riverine areas.

The governor emphasised that infrastructure development remains central to economic growth, noting that improved road networks would link farmers to markets, attract investments, and strengthen rural-urban integration.

Providing details, Oborevwori said the project involved complex engineering solutions suited to swampy terrain, including sand filling, soil stabilisation, concrete reinforcement, embankment protection and asphalt surfacing. The road, he added, spans widths of between 6.5 and 10.3 metres, with hard shoulders in some sections.

He further disclosed that the State Executive Council recently approved over ₦400 billion in projects across key sectors, including infrastructure, health, education, power, judiciary, and security, in line with his administration’s MORE Agenda, anchored in fairness, justice, and equity.
