Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Saturday, paid glowing tribute to the late Mama Ruth Aruakpor, mother of the Anglican Bishop of Oleh Diocese, Rt. Rev'd John Aruakpor, describing her as a woman of deep faith whose life of service, devotion and sacrifice left an enduring legacy for future generations.
Speaking at her funeral service held at Saint Michael's Anglican Church, Emevor, in Isoko North Local Government Area, the governor urged the Aruakpor family to take solace in the remarkable life their matriarch lived and the positive impact she made on her family, church and community.
Mama Aruakpor, who passed away on April 15, 2026, at the age of 92, was remembered as a committed Christian, dedicated church worker and loving mother whose influence extended beyond her immediate family.
"We are gathered here today with heavy hearts, but also with gratitude to God for the life that our mother lived," Governor Oborevwori said. "Losing a mother is never easy, no matter how old we are, but we can thank God for the beautiful life she lived and the many people she touched in her lifetime."
The governor noted that while death brings sorrow, the true measure of a person's life is the legacy they leave behind, stressing that Mama Aruakpor's impact was evident in the accomplishments of her children and the values she instilled in countless lives.
"One of the clearest signs of a life well lived is the legacy a person leaves behind. Mama's legacy can be seen in her children and in the many lives she touched throughout her lifetime," he stated.
Drawing inspiration from 2 Timothy 4:7, Oborevwori said the late matriarch's life reflected the Apostle Paul's declaration: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
He described her earthly journey as fulfilled and successful, adding that her steadfast faith, commitment to family and dedication to God's work would continue to inspire generations.
The governor encouraged family members and mourners to celebrate her accomplishments rather than be overwhelmed by grief, describing the occasion as both a time of mourning and thanksgiving.
"Today is not only a day of mourning; it is also a day of thanksgiving. We must appreciate God for granting her a long, fruitful and impactful life," he said.
Oborevwori extended his condolences to Bishop Aruakpor, the children, grandchildren and the entire family, praying for God's comfort and strength as they navigate the loss.
In his sermon titled "Christ Is Coming Quickly," the Archbishop of the Bendel Ecclesiastical Province of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev'd Cyril Odutemu, urged Christians to remain steadfast in faith and live lives worthy of God's calling.
Preaching from Revelation 22:12-13, Archbishop Odutemu reminded worshippers that the second coming of Jesus Christ is certain and could occur at any moment.
Quoting the scripture, "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to everyone according to his work," he urged believers to remain faithful, uphold integrity, demonstrate love, and focus on eternal values rather than temporary worldly achievements.
According to him, while earthly possessions may fade away, a genuine relationship with God endures forever, making it imperative for Christians to live in readiness for Christ's return.
The funeral service attracted clerics, political leaders, government officials, family members and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of the revered matriarch.
