...Calls it symbol of 'Renewed Hope'
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday, performed the groundbreaking for the reconstruction of the 10-kilometre Warri–Sapele–Benin Dual Carriageway, describing it as a “symbol of renewed partnership” between the Federal and Delta State Governments under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking at the flag-off in Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Areas, Oborevwori said the long-awaited project would deliver a durable dual carriageway with reinforced concrete pavement, expanded shoulders, and modern drainage systems to improve road safety and ease transportation.
“This project underscores what we can achieve when the federal and state governments work together. Although this is a federal road, Deltans and Nigerians use it daily — and their safety is our priority,” the governor said.
He noted that the state government had already paid ₦10 billion in compensation to facilitate the ongoing Second Niger Bridge access road, reaffirming his administration’s resolve to invest in critical infrastructure, peace, and security.
Oborevwori lamented the suffering of motorists on the dilapidated road and assured that the reconstruction would ease traffic, reduce travel time, spur commerce, and improve security. “Criminals exploit bad roads to commit crimes; once completed, this highway will make travel safer and faster,” he stated.
The governor also pledged to address the Uvwie people’s requests for a Mother and Child Hospital and a 500KVA transformer, vowing to leave lasting legacies. “I’m not in office for personal gain. I want to be remembered for projects that changed lives,” he said before flagging off the work from Effurun Roundabout to Ometan Bridge.
Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, described the 10km project as “a visionary step” by the governor. He said it covers five kilometres on each side, with each lane measuring 8.8 metres — wider than the national standard — and would be completed within 12 months.
CCECC General Manager, Engr. Thomas Feng, assured that the firm would deliver the project to global standards and on schedule, promising a “new era of safe, efficient transport” for Delta State.
Chairman of Uvwie LGA, Chief Anthony Ofoni, announced that Airport Road in Effurun would be renamed Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori Way in honour of the governor’s developmental strides.
Royal fathers, including HRM Emmanuel Sideso, Abe I, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, and representatives of the Orodje of Okpe, praised the governor’s ongoing infrastructure drive — especially the flyovers, road expansions, and urban renewal efforts — as transformative milestones for Delta’s economy and people.
