Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has reinforced the state’s ban on the illegal collection of levies known as “Deve,” warning that offenders will face stiff sanctions.
Speaking during an inspection of the Warri Stadium project on Tuesday, the governor made it clear that his administration will not tolerate any action that disrupts government, corporate, or private development projects across the state. His warning follows the recent arraignment of two suspects linked to the unlawful collection of levies.
Oborevwori declared that any unauthorised demand on developers is “dead on arrival,” stressing that such practices stifle growth and deter investors. He commended the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Weyinmi Agbatayeniro, for sustaining peace and supporting development efforts in the area.
The governor further underscored his administration’s focus on job creation through infrastructure, noting that ongoing projects are driving local economic activity by engaging artisans, suppliers, and traders. He added that most of the workforce on these projects are Deltans, countering claims of foreign dominance.
He also revealed the introduction of a special allowance for medical doctors to boost morale and improve healthcare delivery, describing it as part of broader efforts to strengthen critical sectors.
Oborevwori expressed satisfaction with the growing public support for his administration’s projects, assuring residents that the government will remain committed to policies that promote economic growth, peace, and sustainable development across Delta State.
