The Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has expressed his deep sorrow and sympathy to the government and people of Delta State over the petrol tanker explosion that claimed several lives at Koko Junction on Sunday.
Obaseki’s media aide, Crusoe Osagie, released a statement on Monday, expressing the governor’s grief over the terrible accident that he said could have been avoided and was unfortunate.
He said, “We are saddened by the news of the petrol tanker explosion in Koko Junction, Delta State. We commiserate with the government and people of Delta State over the tragic incident. We sympathise with the families of the victims.”
Obaseki urged Nigerians to desist from attempting to scoop petrol whenever there is an accident involving tankers, saying that such acts could endanger their lives and property.
He said, “It is pertinent to consider safety first and report to appropriate authorities in such instances. We urge the relevant agencies to investigate the cause of the accident and take necessary measures to prevent a recurrence.”
The governor also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and the quick recovery of the injured. He assured his Delta counterpart, Ifeanyi Okowa, of his support and solidarity in this difficult time.
