Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North) has described the return of Senate President Godswill Akpabio as “a source of renewed confidence for the Senate,” assuring Nigerians that the coming legislative session will be vigorously dedicated to advancing their aspirations.
Nwoko, who joined other lawmakers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday to welcome Akpabio back from an international engagement, said the Senate under his leadership would align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda to deliver tangible reforms.
“The Senate President’s return marks a new wave of energy for the National Assembly. Nigerians can expect robust legislative activities that address economic challenges, governance reforms, and the wellbeing of our people,” Nwoko stated.
Akpabio had arrived at about 4 a.m. from London after participating in the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, Switzerland. Addressing journalists, he dismissed speculations about his health as “baseless falsehoods,” declaring: “I am fit as a fiddle and ready to lead.”
During the Geneva conference, convened by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations, Akpabio highlighted Nigeria’s initiatives in education loans, vocational training, tax reforms, and direct cash transfers as part of broader poverty alleviation and governance reforms.
His media office clarified that his London stopover was purely recreational, stressing that the Senate President used the time for rest and reflection.
Observers say Akpabio’s renewed vigor, coupled with the confidence expressed by lawmakers like Nwoko, positions the Senate to play a decisive role in shaping Nigeria’s economic and democratic progress.
